The network's Premier New Show of This Year Gets a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family navigate their simple existence.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to help comedy break out of its current sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
